BROOKLYN – It’s hard to imagine what statistical category the Montezuma girls basketball team might have missed in its 78-43 run past BGM on Friday evening, Dec. 13.

The Bravettes were a load – from shooting, to rebounding, to defending in an up-tempo game.

“This game was a great example of ball movement, patience and togetherness,” said Bravettes Coach Janel Burgess.

Montezuma put four players into double figures in scoring, and a fifth missed by just one basket. “I was excited to see our ball movement be smooth and selfless,” Burgess said.

Montezuma shot .500 from the field, and assisted 20 of 29 made field goals. “We found the great shot instead of settling for a good shot,” the coach said.

The Bravettes dominated on the boards, piling up a 40-14 margin in rebounds.

The team did it without fouling – just five personals were called against Montezuma.

Montezuma led 26-15 after one quarter, 43-25 at halftime and 62-35 through three quarters.

Shateah Wetering scored 23 points, which included five three-pointers in seven attempts. She also grabbed seven rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots.
