Momentum can be your best friend or your worst enemy in volleyball.
North Mahaska had ol’ mo on its side. But then momentum hopped the net and stayed on Montezuma’s side.
The Bravettes overcame an 0-2 deficit in sets to win the last three and prevail, 3-2, in a Class 1A Region 6 volleyball match Wednesday night at home.
The Warhawks outscored Montezuma 50-38 in taking the first two sets.
But over the course of the last three, it was Montezuma by a 65-44 margin.
For the record, scores in this 3-2 Bravettes win were 20-25, 18-25, 25-22, 25-15 and 15-7.
Something caused momentum to change, and we invite you to return Thursday when we hope to have comments from Montezuma Coach Rylie Little.
The Bravettes play next on Monday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. in Traer, when they’ll face North Tama (28-10).
There’s a theory in team sports claiming it’s tough to beat a team three times in one season.
Montezuma had already scored three wins over the Warhawks, two in three-set tournament matches, the third by a 3-1 score.
Now comes a fourth win against a game Warhawks squad.
The Bravettes continue on at 22-9, while North Mahaska closes an 18-14 campaign.
ANOTHER MILESTONE – Montezuma senior Shanae Wetering put down her 500th career kill during Wednesday’s match. Earlier this week, senior Katie Reynolds became the Bravettes’ all-time leader in assists.
