Quick girls scrimmage against GMG

SULLY – The new girls basketball season reached the putting on the uniform and playing in front of officials and fans stage Monday evening, Nov. 17, as jamborees took place in Sully and other locations around the state.

Montezuma’s girls looked like they are ready to play and they rolled against Green Mountain-Garwin in a 16-minute scrimmage.

The Bravettes were just too quick for the Wolverines on both offense and defense.

Montezuma’s defense had the Wolves surrounded. On offense, the Bravettes passed the ball around the somewhat taller GMG team, and occasionally drove or passed it to the rim.

Official” scores are not kept, but they do post them on the scoreboards, along with keeping a running clock, so that the girls can work on some game situations.

For the “unofficial” record, Montezuma led 24-5 after one quarter, and 33-5 after two.

Starters for Coach Janel Burgess’ Bravettes were Lauryn Larmore, Letisia Wilson, Syd Burgess, Claire Erselius and Vivian Cook.

Sophia Semprini and Molly Jones were the first two girls off the bench.

Also seeing action were Rylee Thompson, Alexa Rose, Baylee Latcham and Ryanne Williams. And if anyone else came in, I missed them. Sorry!

The Bravettes start their regular season on Tuesday, Nov. 25, at Pella Christian.
