The Montezuma Bravettes 8th grade girls traveled to Williamsburg to face the Raiders in a pre-Christmas basketball game.
It turned into a battle between two strong junior high girls teams.
Williamsburg jumped to a 9-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Bravettes had a strong 2nd quarter as they cut the lead to one at 19-18 at halftime. The Raiders won the 3rd and held on to win 35-30.
Shooting percentages were very close. Montezuma was 14-41 for 34% and 1-7 from 3 point range. Williamsburg went 16-44 for 36% including 0-6 from 3 point range.
The Raiders had a slight edge, 31-28, on the boards. Turnovers hurt Montezuma with 17 while Williamsburg had 11.
Shiressa Wetering had 14 points and 6 rebounds. Ellen Cook had 11 points with a 3-point hoop. She also had 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals.
Harlea Pargeon & Madison Cheney each had 2 points. Taylor Wilcox had a free throw.
The Bravettes are 2-1 on the season. Their next game is at home on January 11 against a talented North Mahaska team.
