TAMA – The Bravettes jumped off the porch and ran with some big dogs on Tuesday, April 26, and Coach Megan Carlson used the occasion to mark a milestone for one of her seniors.
As a team, the Bravettes placed fifth at the South Tama Invitational, in a field that included larger schools like Gilbert, Hudson, South Tama, and Waterloo West, which placed first through fourth, respectively.
The senior Carlson singled out was Rebeka Teumer, who competed for the first time in the high jump. That was the 19th different event – that’s all of them – she has competed in during a three-year high school career.
“Her high jump debut and finale were a challenge, but she approached it well, as she does with everything on the team,” Carlson said.
“It is not only with performances that this is a truly amazing feat, but overall the willingness of someone to do whatever is needed for the team,” the coach said.
“The team is blessed to have so many girls that would do this, and that is part of the reason these girls are so great,” Carlson said.
Two of the impressive finishes by the Bravettes in this meet were seconds in the shuttle hurdle relay and by the 4×200 team.
Leslie Lopez, Taytin Chamberlin, Jadyn Sharer and Hayley Burnett are the hurdlers. The 4×200 squad included Taya Sincox, Shanae Wetering, Katie Reynolds and Madison Van Zee.
The Bravettes also got a third in the 4×800 and the 4×100, along with some scoring place finishes in individual events.
“With a night of great weather, it was an amazing opportunity for the girls to compete and continue to prepare for the big meets coming up,” Carlson said.
