Road to state starts for the matmen

It’s tournament time for the boys wrestlers and something is different this year.

That difference: A layer of tournament competition has been revised.

Class 1A boys will gather at English Valleys on Saturday, Feb. 11. The top two finishers in each weight class will move directly to the state meet.

Before, the top four moved on to another meet held the week after the first one.

Another change: Starting time on Feb. 11 is 10 a.m. Before, it was noon.

The schools in District 3 are BGM, Belle Plaine, Don Bosco, English Valleys-Tri-County, HLV, Hudson, Iowa Valley, Lynnville-Sully, Montezuma and North Mahaska.

Tickets cost $8, and are available online through HomeTown Ticketing.

The state individual meet in Des Moines runs Wednesday, Feb. 15, through Saturday, Feb. 18.

Montezuma boasts a genuine state meet contender in 220-pound senior Kennen Roadcap, who won his weight class at the SICL tournament.

But, you never know who might rise up, get hot and make a run. That’s why they wrestle the matches . . .
