Roadcap wins, Marty Knox second at Pekin

PEKIN – Kennen Roadcap won first place, Marty Knox was second, and Braxton Plants took a third for the Montezuma wrestlers at the Bill Rex Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 3.

The meet, at Pekin, replaced the Montezuma Invitational on the Braves’ schedule.

Roadcap pinned all three of his opponents on his way to the 220-pound championship. In so doing, the senior ran his season record to 8-1.

Knox pinned two opponents to make it to the championship match at 195, then fell via a pin in the championship match. Knox’ record stood at 7-2 after this tournament.

Meanwhile, freshman Braxton Plants continued his good work at 182 pounds with a third-place finish. He went 3-1 on the day and pinned his final three opponents. He stands at 9-2 on the season.

Brett Plants had a busy day at 170, competing in five matches and winning four on pins on his way to a fifth-place finish in a crowded weight class. He took his season’s record out to 8-4.

Also taking a fifth for the Braves was Owen Desrochers at 145 pounds.
