Varsity girls defend Keota, 60-16

KEOTA – The Bravettes broke away from Keota in the second quarter and rolled to a 60-16 varsity win on Tuesday evening, Dec. 19.

Montezuma led 12-8 after one quarter, but expanded it to 31-10 with a 19-2 second quarter.

Ellen and Vivian Cook kept pressure on the younger Keota team on offense and defense.

Unofficially, Ellen had 19 points and Vivan scored 13. Ellen’s game included 6 rebounds, 3 assists and three steals.

The Bravettes also took advantage of Shiressa Wetering’s size and skills inside, going in to her for 14 points, on 6-for-10 shooting.

Claire Erselius scored 8 points for the Bravettes.

Montezuma used a variety of defenses, and kept the ball moving on offense. The Bravettes shot .500 from the field in 24 makes on 48 attempts. They assisted 12 of those baskets.

Keota showed patience in looking for good shots, but had trouble making many of those attempts. The Eagles shot .233 from the field (7-for-30) and made 23 turnovers, to Montezuma’s 6.

Montezuma moved to 7-2 overall with the win, while Keota fell to 1-8.

UP NEXT – The Bravettes play at PCM on Thurs., Jan 4, as part of a boys-girls doubleheader.
