Runners are gliding into their season

Coach Kevin Gartman and his Montezuma cross country runners have been busy getting ready for their fall season.

That season was scheduled to begin Tuesday, Sept. 2, at the Williamsburg Invitational.

Montezuma’s girls will be featured, at least early in the season. They have more numbers and varsity experience than the boys.

Gartman’s two seniors are Claire Erselius and Hialeah Eichenberger.

Also running for the Bravettes are juniors Vivian Cook and Aly Daniels, sophomores Alexa Rose and Sophia Semprini and freshman Molly Jones.

When healthy and running together, they could be a formidable team.

The boys team includes junior Linkyn Bru, sophomores Nicholas Damon, Cade Lowry and Dayton Reif, and freshman Luke Benson.

Montezuma also has a junior high girls team.

Eighth graders are Brea Cheney, Alyssa Latcham, and Lucy Semprini, and seventh graders Ava Anderson, Karley Eichenberger, Elise Mathes, Addilyn Ross and Teagan Sutherland.

After Tuesday, the teams were scheduled to run in the Pekin Invite, scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 4, at Wildwood Park in Otttumwa.
