Runners battle heat as well as opponents

IOWA CITY – Survival rivaled competition as the order of the day as hundreds of runners battled 88-degree heat and each other at the Clipper Classic at Kickers Sports Complex on Monday, Aug. 29.

One who thrived – again – was junior high runner Ava Anderson, who placed second, about22 seconds behind the winner.

As always, the course runs long and slow and the heat didn’t help with that tonight,” said Montezuma Coach Kevin Gartman.

I’m ready for October weather. I am proud of our kids and how we battled tonight,” he said.
