Runners ‘keep growing’ at Pleasantville

PLEASANTVILLE – Montezuma’s girls finished second as a team, several athletes ran season or career bests, and the junior high runners opened their season at the Trojan Invitational cross country meet on Monday, Sept. 13.

Alivia Cline medaled in the varsity race and ran another personal record of 22:35 in placing 10th overall.

Central Decatur edged the Bravettes 59-93 for first place. There were 13 full teams competing.

In the boys varsity event, Carter McKee and Jayden Ross set new personal records.

Jayvee girls ran with the varsity girls, and Ashlee Eilander and Makenna Johannes medaled at that level as the second and third place jayvees.

The junior high season began with Claire Erselius medaling with her third place finish. Vivian Cook placed ninth.

“Our runners did a nice job of continuing to grow tonight,” said Montezuma Coach Kevin Gartman.

“I loved having our junior high runners present for the first time,” the coach said.

“I look forward to the challenges ahead on Thursday at Lynnville!” Gartman said.

UP NEXT – Montezuma competes at the Lynnville-Sully Invitational on Thursday, Sept. 16.

Montezuma placed 2nd out of 13 full teams. Central Decatur won with 59 points. The Bravettes scored 93 points. There were 112 total runners.
