Running vs. big schools makes you work

LeGRAND – Joining a field of larger schools is designed to stimulate effort. That was the plan as Montezuma waded into deep water against a 12-school field at the East Marshall Girls Invitational on Thursday, April 15.

That water was cold!

It was a chilly night and we need to keep preparing for our events regardless of the weather,” said Montezuma Coach Megan Carlson.

Getting the chance to compete with larger schools, on a cut-off night for the Drake Relays, allows for you to witness some amazing performances,” Carlson said.

The Bravettes scored a pair of third-place finishes and finished 10th in the 12-team field.

Lydia Singleton, left, and Camryn Brennan, right, take off in the 100-meter dash.

The girls ran hard and were able to improve many splits, handoffs and (their) preparation for the rest of the season,” said Carlson.

One of Montezuma’s third-place finishes was by Elise Boulton, who clocked a 12:14.99 time in the 3,000-meter run.

The other third came in the distance medley. Madison Van Zee, Dylan Holland, Ash Krousie and Mia Boulton ran the distance in 4:57.96.

The Bravettes had three fifth-place finishes.

Katie Reynolds got one with her distance of 14-8½ in the long jump.

Elise Boulton was fifth in the 1,500 at 5:46.41.

And, Montezuma’s 4×400 quartet of Madison Johannes, Mia Boulton, Alivia Cline and Madison Van Zee was in fifth at 4:52.28.

The Bravettes had three finishers in the top nine in the 800-meter run. Mia Boulton clocked 2:50.23, Elise Boulton was at 2:51.74, and Alivia Cline hit the finish at 2:52.55.

I love how this team supports each other and works to get better every time they compete,” Carlson said.

Allyson Larmore, right, hands to Mia Boulton for the anchor leg on the 4×200.
