A great halftime speech?

Effective adjustments?

Whatever, scoring three touchdowns in the first 2:12 of the second half, Montezuma expanded a 26-16 halftime lead to 45-16 on its way to a 62-24 win over Lone Tree on Friday evening, Oct. 9 at Badger-Gabriel Field.

The win gave the 7-0 Braves an undefeated regular season.

Quarterback Eddie Burgess was in on eight touchdowns for Montezuma, passing for five and running for three.

Cole Watts and Trey Shearer each scored on two of those scoring strikes, while Connor Van Zee ran under one.

The Lions (3-3) had some players who were speedy and skilled. They got the visitors off to a strong start that included a 65-yard, five-minute scoring drive to start to the game.

But the Braves started flowing to the ball better on defense, and rolled pretty much unchecked on offense, especially in the third quarter, when they rang up 33 unanswered points.

UP NEXT – Montezuma has drawn a first round bye for Oct. 16. The Braves will play Oct. 23, against the winner of a Winfield-Mt. Union – Lone Tree game.
