BELLE PLAINE – Montezuma battled, but Belle Plaine prevailed.
The Plainsmen put down a third set comeback by the Bravettes and defeated Montezuma 3-1 on Thursday in the South Iowa Cedar League tournament championship match.
Scores for Belle Plaine were 25-17, 25-21, 19-25 and 25-14.
It was a long evening of volleyball, starting at 5 p.m., and not ending until about 10.
Belle Plaine, the top seed, had about 90 minutes of rest between matches, while the Bravettes had to come right back and play 17 minutes after outlasting HLV in five sets in the semifinals.
Belle Plaine advanced its record to 23-8 with the victory.
Montezuma is 12-6.
These two teams possibly could meet for a third time in the regionals, where they’re in different brackets.
UP NEXT – The regional tourney starts Monday, Oct. 19, with Montezuma hosting the first two rounds. The Bravettes’ opponent at 7 p.m. on Monday will be Iowa Valley, a team they defeated earlier this season but in a tough match.
