NORTH ENGLISH – The Montezuma Braves wanted to keep the football in front of them Friday night.
Did they ever!
Montezuma scored 42 unanswered points to cause a continuous clock in the first quarter and beat English Valleys 49-12 Friday night in a match-up of 3-0 Class 8-man teams.
Young but big and strong up front, the Braves were more physical on both sides of the ball, and clogged cutback lanes for the Bears’ strong halfback, Beau Flander.
Meanwhile, Montezuma quarterback Eddie Burgess and his receiving corps did some surgery downfield.
Burgess threw four touchdown passes, all to different receivers, in the first half, and ran for a pair of touchdowns.
Kodie Strong ran for one touchdown and his first quarter interception was one of three turnovers the Braves converted into scores during the period.
Freshman place kicker Owen Cook continued his streak of consecutive PAT boots, going seven-for-seven.
