Bravettes defense up all night, 61-21

SIGOURNEY – Just like bullies don’t like to be bullied, defenders don’t care to be defended. Or something like that.

Montezuma’s defense never rested after meeting early resistance by Sigourney and the Bravettes pulled away to a 61-21 win in another battle of SICL heavyweight teams on Friday evening, Dec. 18.

The Bravettes forced 33 turnovers while taking their record to 7-1 overall and to 6-0 in league play.

Sigourney (4-1) (2-2) played man-to-man defense throughout and it took Montezuma most of the first quarter to adjust.

The Savages, meanwhile, never did fully adjust to Montezuma’s full-court pressure. Sigourney wanted to take the ball inside, but found things tangled up there.

Shanae Wetering bothers an inbounds passing attempt at Sigourney. (Submitted).

The Bravettes outscored Sigourney 43-9 during the two middle quarters to pull away early, leading 54-17 through three periods.

Shanae Wetering had her best scoring game for the Bravettes, going for 18 points which included 13 in the first half. She knocked down four of seven shots from behind the arc.

Elise Boulton scored 12, Mia Boulton had nine, Madison Johannes scored eight, and Kierstyn Price and Dylan Holland scored six points each.

The Bravettes made just nine turnovers.
