FORT DODGE – On a raw, windy afternoon, Montezuma junior Elise Boulton was 43rd out of 139 runners in the Class 1A state cross country meet.

The meets for all classes were run Saturday, Nov. 2, on the Lakeside Golf Course.

The meet took place on a cold November day, but the times themselves were brisk as well,” said Montezuma Coach Kevin Gartman.

Boulton’s time over the 5K distance was 20:52.6.

That was the fastest time run by a Montezuma runner on this particular course,” Gartman said.

It was the second-fastest time by Boulton in her career,” he said.

Previous state meets were run on a different course in Fort Dodge.

This was Boulton’s third consecutive appearance in the state cross country meet.

The race marked the end of the season, but a bright 2020 season for Boulton and both the Montezuma boys and girls cross country teams is ahead,” Gartman said.
