The Bravettes used both elements in a 59-38 win over Prairie City-Monroe (PCM) Thursday evening, Dec. 3, at home.
Montezuma jammed the passing lanes against a team that was intent on taking the ball to the basket. Result: The Bravettes scored the game’s first 14 points, and didn’t allow the Mustangs to score a basket until just 2:20 remained in the first half.
The Bravettes led 19-2 after one quarter and 35-9 at halftime.
PCM played well the first five minutes of the third quarter and shaved six points off its deficit. But Montezuma recovered and had its margin back at 49-23 through three quarters.
The Bravettes were raining down three-balls, after getting shooters open with quick ball movement.
Mia Boulton splashed down six treys and led with 19 points.
The team knocked down 11 three-pointers in all.
Elise Boulton scored 12 points, Madison Johannes had nine, and Dylan Holland scored eight.
PCM made 24 turnovers, twice as many as the Bravettes.
PCM fell to 0-3, although the Mustangs were close against Knoxville and Chariton, which are closer to being PCM’s peers in terms of school enrollment.
Montezuma improved its mark to 2-1.
