Girls hide from BGM’s Bears, 91-8

Shanae Wetering (5) goes in for two against BGM as Mia Boulton (12) looks on. (Submitted).

Against an over-matched opponent, a team has to bring its own energy in order to have a productive night.

The Montezuma Bravettes brought it against BGM.

Montezuma beat the Bears 91-8 in varsity girls basketball on Friday evening, Dec. 11.

The Bravettes defended well, rebounded and got good ball movement on offense.

Montezuma led 33-4 after one quarter, and 63-4 at halftime.

Everyone played and the Bravettes outscored their opponent 28-4 in the second half.

The Bravettes assisted 22 of 37 made baskets. That’s a good number, but consider that the starters assisted 12 of their 27 makes. That means they kept the ball flying around and through the BGM defense.

Those assists led to 27-for-37 shooting by the starters, a .730 shooting average. It included 11-for-19 from behind the three-point arc, a lofty .600 average.

Looking at the team totals, the Bravettes shot .617 from the field, including 14-for-29 from three-point range.

Montezuma had four double figures scorer and came within a gnat’s eyelash of having six.

Elise Boulton (20) shoots, Shanae Wetering blocks out underneath, and Dylan Holland looks on vs. BGM. (Submitted).

Elise Boulton led with 23 points and splashed down seven treys in 10 tries. She also had five assists.

Shanae Wetering and Mia Boulton each scored 14 points, Dylan Holland had 13 (and eight rebounds), while Madison Johannes and Jadyn Sharer dialed up nine and eight points, respectively.

The win lifted the Bravettes to 5-1 overall and 4-0 in SICL conference play.
