SCORES: Girls put NM in lockdown, 48-32

Maddy McKeag, shooting here in a game last season, knocked down a trio of treys in Montezuma's 48-32 win over North Mahaska. (Brake file).

The Montezuma Bravettes knew they would be challenged by an experienced and offensive-minded North Mahaska team.

Challenge met!

The Bravettes held the Warhawks to 22 percent field goal shooting in a 48-32 home victory on Tuesday, Dec. 3, in the league opening game for both teams.

North Mahaska had shot over than 50 percent from the field and put up 75 points in their opening game, a 20-point loss to Grinnell.

Shateah Wetering scored 17 points and Elise Boulton had 13 for Montezuma, which shot 45 percent from the field. But stepping up big time for the Bravettes was senior guard Maddy McKeag, who scored nine points – all on three-balls – and led the team with five rebounds.

Montezuma moved to 3-0, while North Mashaska is 0-2.

UP NEXT – Montezuma is at Colfax-Mingo Friday, Dec. 6.

Whatever happened, it was good for the Bravettes against North Mahaska. (Allyson Fillmore file).
