Montezuma’s junior varsity girls and boys basketball teams split with their opponents at home on Monday evening, Nov. 30.
Girls win their first, 26-21
The Bravettes used a 9-3 run in the second quarter to establish a five-point lead over Sigourney, then held it in the second half to win, 26-21.
It was the first victory for the Bravettes after opening with a pair of defeats.
Braves fall, but had a nice run
In boys’ play, Colfax-Mingo survived a 13-0 first half run by the Braves and went on to take a 53-45 win in the first game for the Montezuma boys.
Montezuma trailed 20-10 early in the second period, but scored the final 13 points of the half to lead 23-20 at intermission.
But Colfax-Mingo sprinted out ahead again and took the eight-point victory.
