SCORES: New London beats Braves, 94-68

The infantry grounded the air force Friday night and yes, it was a war.

Running back Shae Summerfield and his New London teammates beat Montezuma, 94-68, in their eight-man regular season football finale.

The win lifted New London into the playoffs and eliminated the Braves. Montezuma finished with a final RPI rating of 19th, and needed 16th or better in order to have qualified as an at large team.

New London outscored the Braves 36-14 in the first quarter and Montezuma never came all the way back.

The Braves cut the lead to eight points at 42-34 late in the first half, and to 64-56 with 5:34 left in the third quarter. But New London had Summerfield, and answers.

Montezuma quarterback Eddie Burgess threw for seven touchdowns, five of them to receiver Cole Watts. Two went to wide-out Trey Shearer. Burgess also ran for a pair of scores.

Come back here later and we’ll have more details, which includes tons of stats.

Eddie Burgess (17) passed and ran for 663 yards and 9 touchdowns against New London, which sometimes exacted a price for it.
