NEW SHARON – Their records coming in indicated it might be a close match – and it was.
North Mahaska beat Montezuma 3-0 in three tight games – 25-23, 26-24 and 25-21. The match was played Monday, Sept. 30.
North Mahaska moved to 12-9 on the season. The Bravettes fell to 10-12.
It was an important match in terms of potential seeding for the upcoming South Iowa Cedar League tournament.
Coach Katie Dunlap had indicated coming in she wanted her team to be more aggressive at the net and the Bravettes were. Ashlyn Krousie had 12 kills, Shelby Conger had eight, and Dylan Holland had three blocks. Katie Reynolds had a great serving match for the Bravettes, with 17-of-19 including four aces.
But the Warhawks were tough on defense. Paige Layman had 24 kids and Zoe Deucore had 21.
And, they were tough at the net, too. Kassidi Steel had 12 kills and Layman had 10.
It was a battle, and this one went to the Warhawks.
