SCORES: Yes! Bravettes run to state!

Montezuma's state-meet-bound cross country team! (Submitted).

GUTHRIE CENTER – Montezuma cross country Coach Kevin Gartman’s Tweet on the school web site said it all:

Yes!!!”

Translation: The high school girls cross country team has qualified for the state meet – as a team – for the first time in 38 years!

It didn’t take long for the t-shirt design to appear!

It happened on a raw, blustery Friday afternoon, Oct. 23, in Guthrie Center, at the Class 1A state qualifier meet.

In order to accomplish this, the girls had to finish first or second as a team. They were second, out of 13 full squads.

Elise Boulton placed fifth individually and Mia Boulton was 10th. They would have gone to state even had the rest of the team not qualified. But, they did qualify! Rest assured, many more details about the day will be coming in!

On the boys’ side, Brydon Henning placed 16th individually and a young Braves team was fifth out of 13 full squads. Henning’s time was 6:05.5. He needed 5:59.4 for 10th place, the last state qualifying spot.

Meanwhile, congratulations are in order for the Bravettes!

THE STATE MEET – will be on Saturday, Oct. 31, at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge. The Class 1A girls compete at 3:30 p.m.
