The Montezuma Bravettes A-team traveled to Sully to play the Hawks on Monday, January 16.

The Bravettes had beaten the Hawks 44-16 earlier in the season.

Monte expected a tough game going to Sully and that is what they got. It was a scrappy defensive battle in the first quarter with Monte leading 3-2 late in the quarter. Then, Sydnee Burgess found Vivian Cook for a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to give the Bravettes a 6-2 lead at the end of the first.

The second quarter was very frustrating for the Bravettes as they scored only 4 points. Lynnville-Sully hit 2 late free throws to make the score 10-7 at halftime.

To start the 3rd quarter, the Hawks got the first 2 baskets to take a 11-10 lead. The Bravettes went on an 18-2 run from there to take control of the game. Montezuma controlled the 4th quarter to win a hard fought battle, 35-20.

Monte shot 12-55 (22%) from the field, 5-13 (39%) from 3-point range and 6-18 (33%) from the line. Lynnville-Sully shot 6-22 (27%) from the field, 0-2 from 3-point range and 8-16 (50%) from the line. The Bravettes edged the rebound battle 36-34. Monte forced 35 turnovers while having 16.

Vivian Cook made some big shots for the Bravettes from long range. She had 18 points including 5-8 from long distance. Sydnee Burgess had another solid game with 10 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals.

Rylee Wolford had 4 points and 4 steals. Leah Urfer had 2 points and led the team in rebounds with 11. Lauryn Larmore had 1 free throw and 3 steals. Letisia Wilson had 7 rebounds and 6 steals.
