SE Warren wears down Braves, 46-28

LACONA – Right from the start, Montezuma fans could tell that the Southeast Warren Warhawks would be trouble. Their linemen fired off the football on offense and attacked on defense.

Southeast Warren quarterback Jamison Ewing stayed behind his linemen and took what his big eaters provided. And it was a lot.

Ewing rushed 45 times for 305 yards – 6.8 per carry. He ran for four touchdowns. Ewing was six-for-10 passing, for 58 yards and another score.

Braves quarterback Brady Boulton didn’t get the same kind of protection, but still, he had the Braves up 22-16 at halftime. Boulton was 18-for-30 through sthe air for 215 yards and two scores, but also was intercepted twice, by a pressuring Warhawks defense.

Boulton returned four kickoffs for 85 yards, which helped to start the Braves in good field position.

Ewing led the charge for his team’s defense, too. He led the Warhawks with 9 tackles, including 8 solo stops.

More about Jamison Ewing? He ran for three two-point conversions. He’s a 6-0, 190-pound senior.

Southeast Warren kept charging and outscored Montezuma 30-6 in the second half of a 46-28 win in a district 7 Class 8 showdown game on Friday evening, Sept. 26.

Both teams entered unbeaten in district play.

Trailing 32-28, the Braves were marching when Boulton threw an interception just inside midfield on the last play of the third quarter.

The Warhawks resumed pounding the ball, but the Braves held them on downs.

But Montezuma couldn’t find enough openings on offense.

Southeast Warren scored touchdowns with 3:29 left to play and another with 1:42 left, pushing its lead out to 46-28.

This game again showed the all-around excellence of Braves senior Broox Stockman.

Stockman, a linebacker, had a whopping 18.5 tackles, including 12 solo. He had 2.0 tackles for loss.

As a running back, he gained 77 yards on 17 carries, including two Tds. He caught 10 passes for 124 yards and another touchdown. And, he had a two-point conversion.

The Warhawks are 5-0 overall and Montezuma stands at 3-2.
