Season of improvements comes to an end

GLADBROOK – It was a season of improvements for Braves baseball, and excitement that waned, then soared.

But, it’s over, with seven wins and nine losses – six more victories than a year ago!

Green Mountain-Garwin scored seven unearned runs and beat Montezuma 8-3 on Saturday evening, July 1, in the first round of post-season play.

Braves senior pitcher Owen Cook did what he could. He had the Braves ahead 3-2 when he came out of the game.

The Wolverines scored six runs in the seventh inning to take the win.

Cook yielded just two hits and one run, which was not earned. He walked four and struck out nine.

Garrett Watts went two-for-four for the Braves and stole two bases.

Watts also pitched in relief, allowing three hits and four runs, just one of which was earned.

The Braves made three errors on the night.

Montezuma’s three seniors – Carsten James, Owen Cook and Colton Benson – were acknowledged at a recent home game.

Cruz De Jong went two-for-four and hit a double.

Broox Stockman was two-for-four and drove in a run.

Lars Taylor had one it and drove in a run.

Jack Erselius had one hit and it was a double.

Brayden Duden had two hits and three RBI’s for the Wolverines. Teammate Rider Kupka had two hits and drove in three more runs.

GMG advanced to 9-14 on the season.
