The Montezuma Bravettes JH A-team hosted a talented Pella Christian team on Thursday, December 1.
Last season, Pella Christian was the Bravettes’ only loss in a close game.
The Eagles made a late basket in the first quarter to take an 11-9 lead. It was back and forth in the 2nd quarter. The score was tied 19-19 at halftime.
Monte had its worst quarter of the season in the 3rd, getting outscored 8-0. The Bravettes tried to rally in the 4th but Pella Christian played well to win 35-26.
Monte struggled shooting going 10-42 (24%) from the field and 6-14 (43%) from the line. Pella Christian was 15-49 (31%) including 3-10 from deep and 1-4 from the line.
Pella Christian was physical on the boards and out-rebounded Monte 40-32. Turnovers were almost even. Monte had 19 and Pella Christian had 20.
Sydnee Burgess led the way for Monte with 14 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blocks.
Leah Urfer battled inside to get 5 points, 6 rebounds and a block.
Lauryn Larmore gave a boost off the bench with 4 points. Rylee Wolford had 2 points. Vivian Cook had 1 point. Letisia Wilson had 7 rebounds.
The Bravettes fall to 2-1 on the season. They travel to Brooklyn on Monday, December 5.
