And the rest of the Braves won’t forget their 4-2 home win over Colfax-Mingo, either!
Montezuma remained patient at the plate, took a 3-2 lead with two runs in the fifth, added on one in the sixth, and took a satisfying win over Colfax-Mingo on Senior Night, Friday, June 25.
The victory allowed the Braves to complete a two-game season sweep of the TigerHawks.
Montezuma got a seven-inning, route-going performance from junior righthander Eddie Burgess, who yielded seven hits and struck out 11 batters.
Cole Watts went two-for-three for the Braves, scored two runs, drew a base on balls and stole two bases.
Burgess was two-for-three, and was credited with the game’s only run batted in.
Cam Johnson’s hit was a triple and he also was hit by a pitch.
The Braves were four-for-four on stolen bases. Connor Van Zee and Colton Benson had one steal each.
Burgess’ totals for seven innings, were seven hits allowed and two runs, one of them earned, two walks and those 11 strikeouts.
Montezuma’s record went to 9-4 overall, including 8-4 in South Iowa Cedar League play.
The TigerHawks are 5-11 and 3-9.
