SIGOURNEY – The Montezuma Bravettes 7th grade basketball team traveled to Sigourney on Monday, November 25 to play the Savages. Montezuma took control of the game early with a 8-4 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Bravettes had their best quarter in the second as they outscored the Savages 7-0 to take a 15-4 halftime lead.
The third quarter was a close one as Monte took a 19-9 lead to the 4th quarter. But, the Savages made a tremendous comeback. Sigourney would hit a shot with 10 seconds remaining to win 20-19.
Montezuma shot 9-32 from the field and 1-5 from the free throw line. Sigourney shot 9-49 from the field and 2-6 from the free throw line. Sigourney dominated the rebounding 43-24. Both teams had 19 turnovers.
Lilly Bushong led the way with 17 points and 8 steals despite being hampered by foul trouble throughout the game. Alyssa Latcham had 2 points, 3 assists and a block. Lucy Semprini had 2 blocks.
Montezuma starts the season 0-1. They host Colfax on December 2. The A-team will play first at 4:30 followed by the 7th graders at 5:30.
