Shearer named to Iowa all-state team

Montezuma High School junior basketball star Trey Shearer has been named to a Class 1A Iowa all-state first team.

The selection was announced Tuesday, March 17, by the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association.

Shearer scored 705 points, averaging 25.2 per game for the state’s third-place team, which compiled a 25-3 record.

Shearer shot .616 from the field, which included .437 from behind the three-point line. He hit free throws at an .833 percentage.

Trey, a 5-10 guard, had 106 rebounds, a 3.79 per game average.

He dished 142 assists (5.08 per game), and made just 42 turnovers all season.

Shearer had 66 steals (2.43) and blocked six shots.

Trey passed the 1,000 mark for career points early this past season.

Right now, he has scored 1,633 career points, and is a 21.5 per game scorer over his three years as a varsity starter.

Shearer is headed for Truman State University in Missouri.
