OAKLAND ACRES – Montezuma’s boys placed fourth and the girls were fifth in the SICL golf championships on Monday and Tuesday, May 10-11.
On Monday, the boys posted a 354 team score, placing them fourth, some 10 strokes behind conference champion Keota.
“A few wayward shots and putts kept the Braves out of the top three on a beautiful, mostly sunny day on the course,” said Montezuma Coach Liesl Roorda.
Maguire De Jong came in low man for the Braves, shooting an 83, “placing him sixth overall as an individual,” Roorda said.
Jason Ross shot an 88 and placed 10th.
The girls played on Tuesday, with senior Lauren Klos shooting her best round of the season, placing 10th overall with a 107.
“It was really fun to see her hard work and focus on some specific areas of her game, and have them pay off at this meet,” Roroda said.
“Each of the girls started the year as a new golfer, and they all have made a tremendous amount of progress,” the coach said.
UP NEXT – The boys play in the sectional at Belle Plaine on Friday, May 14. The girls play in their regional on Monday, May 17, at Knoll Ridge in North English.
