The Bravettes have shown previously this season that they can play competitive softball with some of the South Iowa Cedar League’s best teams.
They did so again on Friday, June 10, but fell, 3-0 to Sigourney, the 10th-ranked team in Class 1A.
A key difference in this one was that the Savages gave themselves more chances on the base paths.
They outhit Montezuma 11-3. Sigourney batters had three extra base hits. Montezuma’s three hits were singles.
Sigourney had 15 total bases to Montezuma’s three.
Each side stole two bases. Montezuma made four errors – not a bad total for the Bravettes – but Sigourney played errorless ball.
The game was scoreless through four innings. Sigourney scored a single run in the fifth inning and two more in the seventh.
Tia Shaffer was 1×2 at the plate for Montezuma.
Kallie Robison pitched for the Bravettes, didn’t walk a batter and struck out three. Just one of the three runs she yielded was earned.
Josephine Moore was 3×4 for Sigourney, with a pair of doubles and a run batted in.
Savages pitcher Carly Goodwin threw all seven innings and struck out 13 Montezuma batters.
Sigourney climbed to 9-3 with this win. Montezuma fell to 2-10.
UP NEXT – Montezuma is at Iowa Valley on Monday, June 13.
