Six Braves were honored by being on one of the the all-SICL baseball teams which are chosen by the league’s coaches.
Cole Watts and Eddie Burgess were on the first team. Owen Cook and Connor Van Zee were named to the second team. And Cam Johnson and Colton Benson were given honorable mention.
Watts, a senior, was chosen as an infielder. He batted .552 for the season, which tied him for sixth best in Class 1A in the state and seventh best for all classes.
Watts scored 33 runs, drove in 10 and went 30-for-34 in stolen bases. He was an .816 fielder.
As a pitcher, Cole compiled a 2.41 earned run average in 20.1 innings of work.
Burgess made the first team as a utility player, after pitching as well as playing shortstop on other nights.
Eddie was seven-for-eight in stolen bases and had a nifty .915 fielding average.
As a pitcher, Burgess had a 4-2 record and a 1.50 earned run average in 37.1 innings. He walked 14 and struck out 47.
Owen Cook made the second team as a pitcher. He emerged as Montezuma’s top starter as a sophomore. He had a 6-5 won-loss record, with a 2.33 earned run average. He walked 20 and struck out 58.
On offense, Cook hit .176 and went eight-for-nine in stolen bases.
Connor Van Zee, the Braves’ catcher, made the second team as a utility player.
Connor hit .413 and was second on the team in runs scored with 17. He had 22 runs batted in, went nine-for-10 in stolen bases and had a nifty .980 fielding percentage.
Cam Johnson earned honorable mention after hitting .348, with 15 RBIs and going nine-for-nine in stolen bases. He fielded .933.
Colton Benson was an honorable mention player after hitting .190, and fielding at a .956 average.
