Slow start hurts 7th girls vs Pella Christian

The Montezuma Bravettes 7th grade girls basketball team traveled to Pella Christian on Thursday, November 30 to face the Eagles.

The Eagles were a strong, seasoned team that jumped all over the Bravettes early to take a 15-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Eagles would lead 18-2 before the Bravettes made a run 9-4 run to end the first half. Pella Christian led 26-11 at the half. Monte continued to fight throughout the 2nd half. The final score was Eagles 38 – Bravettes 21.

Monte shot 7-30 (23%) for the game, including 1-1 from 3-point range and 6-19 (32%) from the free throw line. Pella Christian shot 17-49 (35%) from the field, 1-3 from 3-point range and 3-12 (25%) from the free throw line. The Eagles outrebounded the Bravettes 38-30. The Eagle press helped Pella Christian win the turnover battle 24-15.

Brielle Haughey had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. She also had a block. Mallory Warden scored 5 points including a 3-pointer. Brylee Latcham had 4 points. Kady Schmidt had 2 points and 2 blocks.

The Bravettes fall to 2-1 on the season.
