It was cool and windy, but at least bright and sunny as well as the junior high boys took to the track for the annual running of the Gayle Creswell Relays on Tuesday, April 13.
It was the first home meet for some of Montezuma’s student-athletes.
The meet is named after the late Gayle Creswell, a long-time Montezuma teacher and coach.
Montezuma’s boys scored a fifth-place finish in a seven-team field.
The Braves won three events and placed second in just one. But it was a lot of effort by the team in general that allowed them to put up 91.5 points and challenge Lynnville-Sully and North Mahaska for third place.
Brady Boulton won the long jump with an effort of 16 feet, 2½ inches.
The Braves won the distance medley, with Boulton, Carter Michalek, Bryson Stockman and Luke Erselius finishing in 4:44.08.
Coach Stacy Hopwood’s sprint medley quartet of Boulton, Michalek, Broox Stockman and David Rose won in 1:57.45.
The Braves finished second in the 4×800. Runners Erselius, Broox Stockman, Rose and Bryson Stockman clocked 10:56.45.
