South Tama edges Bravettes, 3-2

TAMA – South Tama edged Montezuma 17-15 in the tie-breaking fifth set to score at 3-2 match victory over the Bravettes on Tuesday evening, Sept. 7.

We had a VERY successful night of volleyball,” said Montezuma Coach Rylie Little. “I think that every game we compete in we get better and better.”

In varsity play, Montezuma was a 27-25 winner in game one.

South Tama won game two, 25-22, and game three, 25-23.

The Bravettes responded with a 25-16 win in game four and seemed to have momentum.

But then South Tama came up with its 17-15 victory to decide the match.

The girls meet up with South Tama again this Saturday at GMG and they are ready for battle!” Little said. “The drive and determination that the girls showed Tuesday proved to me that these girls are capable of accomplishing great things this season.”

The Bravettes put up some big numbers, as you might expect in a close, five-set match.

Shanae Wetering had 15 kills and Izzy Roorda had 10.

Katie Reynolds had 26 assists.

Allyson Larmore had eight digs and Izzy Roorda and Reynolds had six each.

Kallie Robison had two blocks.

It was an especially good night for Montezuma servers, who went 106-for-114, for 93 percent.

Korrinn Kehoe was 21-for-21 with three aces with teammates close behind.

I know the girls care about their stats and Tuesday night was a big night for the stat book,” Little said.

As a team, we watched some video before practice the next day and talked about some key points that will help us going forward,” she said.

The Bravettes are at HLV Monday evening to open conference play. “We have played HLV twice now, with close matches each time,” Little said. “The girls know what we need to work on and we will prepare for another great night of volleyball.”

The Bravettes fell to 4-5 overall.

South Tama went to 5-8.

JV TEAM WINS – Montezuma’s JV team was a 2-0 winner over South Tama, while the frosh-soph teams split, one game each.

UP NEXT – The Bravettes open conference play at HLV on Monday, Sept. 13. The evening’s play starts at 5:30 p.m.
