The Classs 1A state track meet brought out some bests for Montezuma’s three contestants on Thursday, May 18.
Sophomore Ellen Cook turned in a lifetime best of 12:00.42 in placing 21st in the 3,000-meter run.
Freshman Chloe Snook had a lifetme best of 27.27 in being the 17th-fastest in the 2000-meter dash.
Snook had her second-best long jump at 15-07.25.
“The state meet always I an exciting event. But it can be rather overwhelming for kids that have not participated in it,” said Bravettes Coach Megan Carlson.
“These fine young ladies were the first in the building to compete at Drake Stadium,” the coach said.
“They were both amazed at the size of the facility and the number of people. However, they quickly put away the nerves and were able to put up season-best performances,” Carlson said.
“Ellen started the day with another 10-second personal best in the 3,000,” Carlson said. “It was a warm day and it was really starting to heat up, but she was able to run a solid race and come away in a better position than where she started.”
“Ellen has grown so much this year and I am so proud of her,” the coach said. “I know she will take this grit and success to help lead in all of the different Bravette programs.”
“Chloe was up right after in the 200. She got out a little slow, but was also able to come away with a lifetime-best performance.”
“In the long jump, it wasn’t a season-best, but she was just two inches away from that,” Carlson said.
“Chloe has a great talent and is continuing to learn what it takes to be great. She is fun to watch and I am excited to see her in all of her upcoming activities,” said the coach.
“Overall, it was a successful state meet and I know that these two young ladies did a tremendous job of repersenting Montezuma!”
