The Montezuma Bravettes 7th grade girls basketball team hosted a strong team from Lynnville-Sully on January 25.
The game was back and forth throughout the first half with the Hawks taking a 13-9 lead at halftime.
The Hawks started the second half with pinpoint passing and accurate shooting. The Bravettes struggled to respond. Lynnville-Sully pulled away to win, 42-15.
Monte shot 7-26 (23%) from the field and 1-4 (25%) from the free throw line. Sully shot 19-52 (37%) from the field and 4-8 (50%) from the free throw line. The Hawks outrebounded the Bravettes (39-24). Monte had 22 turnovers to L-Sully’s 14.
Kady Schmidt had 6 points and 6 rebounds. Gertie Lally scored 4 points. Brielle Haughey had 3 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Bailea Smith had 2 points. Brylee Latcham had 3 assists and a block. Mallory Warden had 5 steals.
The Montezuma Bravettes 7th grade moves to 5-3 on the season. They go to Belle Plaine on Thursday, February 1. The finish their season at North Mahaska on February 5.
