Strong pitcher controls Montezuma hitters

SIGOURNEY – The recent run of strong hitting by the Montezuma Bravettes came to halt – briefly, fans hope – against one of Class 1A’s best pitchers.

Sigourney rode the two-hit pitching of Carly Goodwin to a 6-0 win over the Bravettes on Wednesday, June 5.

The Savages scored two runs in the second inning, two more in the third and added single tallies in the fourth and sixth innings.

Madison Van Zee got one of Montezuma’s hits.

Kam Schmidt got the other, then stole a base.

Goodwin’s totals in six innings of work: one walk and 17 strikeouts.

Leah Urfer worked all six innings in the circle for the Bravettes. She gave up 11 hits, 6 runs, four of them earned, no walks, hit one batter and struck out three.

Sigourney rose to 7-3 on the season.

Montezuma fell to 3-4.
