Students win awards at FFA Nationals

INDIANAPOLIS – Once again, there were Montezuma highlights at the 96th annual FFA National Convention, held Nov. 1-4.

Montezuma has a second-in-the nation farm business management team. Members were Camryn Brennan, Makenna Johannes, Madison Van Zee and Cruz De Jong.

Brennan placed second in the country in this category; Johannes was seventh and Van Zee was 12th. “All four team members received individual gold medals,” said senior Chapter President Van Zee on the chapter’s Facebook page.

These students worked tirelessly for many months to prepare for a three-hour test and a 90-minute team activity,” Van Zee said.

Earning a silver medal was the chapter’s conduct of meetings team. Silver is a level of achievement and does not mean second in the nation. As of this writing, that finish hadn’t been announced.

Team members are Brady Boulton, Broox Stockman, Claire Erselius, Krista Cheney, Lilly Ferry (alternate), Luke Brennan, Luke Erselius and Peyton Tindle.

They loved their first National FFA Convention,” Van Zee said. “They hope to be back in the future.”

We’re proud of every individual who was involved in a competition this week and put in the hours upon hours of practice preparing for them,” Van Zee said.

Our FFA members say thank you to (teachers) Mr. Rick Swenson and Ms. Hannah Garland for giving us these opporunities and pushing us to be our best selves,” Van Zee said. “We couldn’t do this without their help.”

We would also like to thank Ms. Kaufman for being a great chaperone and helping with everything throughout the week,” Van Zee added.

And thank you all,” Van Zee said, “for showing your support for the Montezuma FFA Chapter.”
