Taya Sincox wins SICL mat title

SIGOURNEY – Montezuma High School senior Taya Sincox, who wrestles as a member of the BGM girls team, won the South Iowa Cedar League individual championship at 130 pounds at the conference meet on Monday, Jan. 27.

Sincox had a bye through the first round.

In the second round, she pinned Brianna Freerksen of Colfax-Mingo in 30 seconds.

In the third round, which was the championship match, Sincox pinned Kia Montgomery of Sigourney-Keota in 1:59.

The night’s results left Sincox’ season record at 39-9.

BGM and North Mahaska each scored 100 points to tie for second place in the team standings.

Colfax-Mingo won the SICL team title with 173 points.
