Thunder likes to air it out

Montezuma’s first two football opponents had a physical nature about them.

Friday night, Sept. 2, a team wound pretty tight around its quarterback comes to town as the Braves open district play.

Grand View Christian comes in 1-0 after pounding Green Mountain-Garwin 56-8 last Friday night.

Don’t choke on your coffee. The Braves got their first gridiron experience against the Thunder at their place last year. It was positive, to the tune of a 64-26 Montezuma victory.

But the Braves had better pay attention.

They are very dynamic on offense and it starts with their quarterback,” Montezuma Coach John Beck said. “But they do have some skill guys who can run and catch the ball.”

They will be in spread sets most of the time,” the coach said. “It will be a big test for our secondary. We will also need our defensive linemen to get some pressure on him to make quick decisions.”

Beck said that on defense, the Thunder “can cover pretty well and will like to load up the box to try to stop the run. It again will come down to our offensive line winning the battle up front and taking care of the football.”
