When it comes to volleyball, the teams from Montezuma and North Mahaska sure can – and more!
They can pass it, hit it and serve it, and they all of those things well n a five-set thriller on Thursday evening, Sept 24, in Montezuma.
The Bravettes got the edge in that tie-breaking fifth set, won it 15-9, and took the match, 3-2.
Prior scores for Montezuma were 26-24, 23-25, 25-17 and 22-25.
In the end, a pair of tired teams left it all on the court.
If there was a key for the Bravettes, it may have been serving. For the second match in a row, Montezuma was really up there on accuracy.
The Bravettes had 109 successful serves on 114 attempts, a .956 percentage. They compiled 13 ace serves.
Otherwise, this became a battle of strong defenses.
The digs total was up over 100 for each team.
The Bravettes got 14 kills from Ash Krousie, 13 from Korrinn Kehoe and 11 from Shanae Wetering.
Madison McKay had 22 kills for the Warhawks and Breanna Fogle had 14.
Five Bravettes were listed with more than 20 digs each.
Krousie had 27, Allyson Larmore had 26, Katie Reynolds had 25, Wetering had 24 and Kehoe had 23.
Jaylayna Shipley and McKay each had 30 digs for North Mahaska.
Layla Hargis was 24-for-26 serving for the Warhawks with one ace.
The victory lifted the Bravettes to 6-4 overall, but kept them unbeaten in South Iowa Cedar League play.
North Mahaska stood at 6-7 after this match.
