MARENGO – Despite doing some of their best batting of the season – 14 hits – the Bravettes fell 4-3 to Iowa Valley in a nine-inning softball thriller.
The game was played Wednesday, June 11, at Iowa Valley.
Montezuma scored two runs early and took a 2-0 lead into the sixth inning. Iowa Valley scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to tie the score.
Each side scored a run in the eighth to force another inning.
The Tigers pushed a one-out run across in the ninth to walk off the Bravettes.
Chloe Snook and Ellen Cook each had four hits for the Bravettes. Chloe also stole a base and scored a run.
Ellen Cook drove in a run.
Mya Smothers had two hits, as did Lauryn Larmore, who smacked a double and scored a run.
Kam Schmidt doubled in a run, and Lily Ferry singled home a run.
Syd Burgess stole a base for the Bravettes.
Leah Urfer pitched the 8.1 inning distance for Montezuma. She yielded 8 hits and 4 runs, just one of which was earned. She walked three and struck out five.
The Bravettes were guilty of five errors.
Lyla Kriegel was in the center of a lot of productivity for Iowa Valley.
She pitched all nine innings, yielding all of Montezuma’s hits and runs – all of which were earned. She walked just one and struck out five.
On offense, Kriegel had two hits and drove in a run.
Olyvia Grant had two hits.
Iowa Valley went to 3-6 with the win.
The Bravettes fell to 3-4.
