Tough ‘B’ loss, but coach praises players

The junior high boys ‘B’ team hung with ’em – but couldn’t catch up to visiting Keota on Monday, Jan. 27. The visiting Eagles got out of Dodge with a hard-fought, 27-17 victory.

It was a win in which the Braves trailed by just two points after one quarter, five at the half, and by just three points through three periods.

We kept with them the entire game just could not hit a shot in the 4th quarter,” said Coach John Beck.

We made a good run in the 3rd and were very confident going into the 4th quarter. We got great looks all game long, unfortunately,  the shots just stopped going in,” the coach said.

When you hold your opponent under 30 points there is always a good opportunity to win,” Beck said. “The players understand that and put out a lot of effort on that end.”

Carter Michalek scored 11 points and was three-for-three from on three-pointers. Spencer Ross scored four and Kohen Holland scored two.

I thought Carter Michalek had a great game,” Beck said. “He handled the ball well and hit some shots outside, including a buzzer-beater from half-court at the end of the 3rd quarter.”

David Rose did a great job attacking the rim and getting great looks, however they just didn’t fall for him,” Beck said.

Spencer Ross continues to do great things when he is on the court. He is hitting shots at a high clip and plays good defense,” the coach said.

Bryson Stockman and Peyton Minner did a great job on the boards and on defense. Kohen Holland continues to do a great job within the offense. He understands what we want to do and keeps the ball moving and finds great shot opportunities,” Beck said.

Briar Simpson, Sammy Boughner, and Jusiah Wetering all did a great job securing rebounds. Landen Morrison and Jayden Ross were doing a lot of things well,” said the coach

I really like how we are attacking the rim on offense,” Beck said.

Overall, it was a great effort by these young men and they continue to grow as basketball players.”
