Two late runs ease C-M past Bravettes

The Bravettes were in the battle, but lost a 5-2 softball game at home to Colfax-Mingo on Friday evening, May 28.

The Tigerhawks plated three first inning runs, but the Bravettes settled in and neither side scored again until the fourth inning. That’s when the Bravettes put up their two runs, cutting the C-M lead to 3-2.

Colfax-Mingo scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to come away with the three-run victory.

Each team had nine hits. Montezuma was guilty of three errors, compared with two by Colfax-Mingo.

Ninth grader Izzy Roorda went three-for-four at the plate for the Bravettes. She drove in a run and had Montezuma’s only stolen base.

Ellen Cook, an eighth grader, went two-for-three.

Jadyn Sharer had one hit and one run batted in, and Laila Kercheval got Montezuma’s other RBI.

Kallie Robison pitched all seven innings for Monteuzma, giving up nine hits and five runs, three of them earned. She walked five and struck out four.

Mariah Webster went three-for-four for Colfax-Mingo, with two runs batted in.

The win was the first for Colfax-Mingo, against three losses.

The defeat dropped the Bravettes to 0-3, including 0-2 in league games.
