HLV remained unbeaten with an 11-3 win over the baseball Braves on Monday evening, June 29, in Montezuma.
The Warriors scored three runs in the first inning, then three more in the second to take early command.
The game settled into a pretty good one for a while after that. Montezuma closed to within 6-2 through six innings. But HLV finished things with a five-run seventh inning.
The Braves had nine hits. Cam Johnson had a three-for-three night at the plate, including a double and two runs batted in.
Brayden Arendt was two-for-four.
Connor Van Zee’s hit was a double.
Rapping singles were Cole Watts, Owen Cook and Preston Hirsch.
Arendt and Watts each stole a base and Arendt scored two runs.
Cook started on the mound for Montezuma and worked and inning and one-third. He gave up five hits and six runs, all earned. He walked two and didn’t strike out a batter. He was tagged with the pitching defeat.
Arendt pitched five and one-third innings, yielding seven hits and five runs, four of them earned. He walked four and and fanned four.
Preston Hirsch pitched one-third of an inning and walked one.
Kody Timm paced the HLV attack, going four-for-five with three doubles and four runs batted in.
HLV went to 7-0 on the season, while the Braves fell to 3-3.
