SULLY – The baseball Braves ran into unbeaten, state-ranked Lynnville-Sully and the result was an 11-1 Hawks win in five innings on Tuesday, May 28.
Hits came from up and down the Lynnville-Sully lineup. The Hawks added 8 stolen bases.
Lynnville-Sully, 6-0, broke open a 1-1 tie after two innings with eight runs in the third.
Garrett Watts was 2-for 3 at the plate, and both hits were doubles. He also stole a base and scored Montezuma’s run.
Watts scored on a single by Gavin Wilcox.
Luke Erselius also had a hit for the Braves, who were at 0-3 after the loss.
Watts pitched the first 2.2 innings, yielding 5 hits and 8 runs, just one of which was earned. He walked two and struck out two.
Isaac Wedgewood threw 1.2 innings for Montezuma, allowing 4 runs, two of them earned. He walked 2 and struck out 3.
Three pitchers worked for the Hawks, with starter Blake Van Wyk going three innings for the win. He struck out 6 in those three frames.
