GRUNDY CENTER – The Bravettes got in some prep work for upcoming big meets when they competed in the Spartan Invitational Coed Meet on Friday evening, April 30.
The competition was good. Montezuma finished fifth in a seven-team field which included some larger schools, and some tough ones from Class 1A.
Katie Reynolds and Dylan Holland fared best as individuals, scoring 14 and 13.5 of Montezuma’s 66.5 team points, respectively.
Reynolds won the 100-meter dash in 13.55 seconds for Montezuma’s only event victory of the night. She also anchored a third-place 4×100 relay, and a fourth-place 4×200 squad.
“Friday night was the definition of perfect weather. It was also a great opportunity for the Bravettes to do one final tune-up before the SICL Meet,” said Coach Megan Carlson.
“Several girls were missing because of dance recital and other obligations, but that did not stop the team from taking advantage of near-perfect weather conditions.”
“I am proud of how they competed hard and continued to work on the little pieces before the next few big meets. This group is selfless and always pushing each other to improve,” Carlson said.
Holland continued her solid efforts in the throws, taking third in both the shot put (31-3½, and the discus (86-9).
UP NEXT – The Bravettes go after the SICL title in Sigourney on Tuesday, May 4.
Quick Stats Iowa now does power ratings for teams, and it has Lynnville-Sully as the favorite, based on reported results. Montezuma and Belle Plaine rank just behind them – and maybe close enough to sneak in there when all of the teams are mixed in, which hasn’t happened in a meet this season.
